Materials - Raw Materials

This term is a "category" for the EWG Framework
 
Definition as it applies to our work:raw materials is the second of three stages of material production.  Included in this part of the materials supply chain is the use of the material in question into a commodity product.
 
Examples
 
polyester granulate is used to make polyester yarn (including extrusion, spinning, etc.)
 
raw cotton fiber is used to make cotton yarn (including carding, scouring, spining, etc)

Issues and Concerns
We will need to provide more clarity regarding the "boundaries" between 1) Feedstock = "raw components", 2) Raw materials = manufacturing of the base substrate, 3) Material Processing = finishing of the base substrate.
