The OIA EWG is excited to announce that a significant milestone towards our index was acheived by the passing (by unanimous vote) of our packaging guidelines. You can download a copy of the guidelines here:

The next step beyond guidelines are metrics and ultimately resulting in a scorecard. Other areas of the OIA EWG Framework will have guidelines drafted in the near term.

To build robust eco solutions we must have a solid platform from which to work. To this end, the group has discussed and agreed to this structure:

  1. OIA serves as the host organization and meeting facilitator.
  2. Membership is open to the entire outdoor industry community.
  3. Interested members pay a fee to OIA for a voting rights in the group.
  4. Interested members sign up for project subcommittees
  5. Voting Members interested in taking on a leadership role can "run" for a committee leadership position on our website. Subcommittee members vote for their two co-leaders.
  6. In addition to being responsible for their subcommittees, leaders serve on the Eco-Index Executive Committee. Executive Committee terms are limited to two years.
  7. The Executive Committee has the authority to set the agenda and arrange logistics for the group meetings. Voting works by majority rule.
  8. All other decisions - subcommittee or working group-- are made through majority rule on group website or at group meetings. Paying members can sign up for email notification for votes.
  9. Group will meet 2x year at OR with a working and report out meeting. Subcommittees can choose to meet more often.

How does one become involved in this process?

All interested companies are encouraged to become part of the process. The intent is for membership to be open at this time.

Going forward, beyond Summer OR Show, there is a plan to institute a tiered particpation fee based upon the annual revenue of your organization.

Fees are designed to keep the process revenue neutral. They mostly cover the cost of meetings and some administrative help provided by OIA.

All brands are entitled to one "named user" logon to the password protected collaborative work site (connected to this blog). To obtain this user account send the name, email address, title, phone number, mobile (if applicable), and company name to:
